Leader's Column
LISTENING TO YOU
One of the great things about living in Wandsworth is the pride people take in their local community or neighbourhood.
For a council that is responsible for delivering hundreds of services to a borough of 279,000 people it's vital to keep in touch with local issues. Local councillors are at the forefront of this process. Each of the borough's 20 wards are represented by three elected members. This means that, wherever you live, there is someone speaking up for you at the town hall.
Throughout the year the council organises a programme of 'report back' sessions in public halls around the borough.
These provide an opportunity for residents to raise local concerns with councillors and service managers. The topics are always varied - covering everything from street cleaning to school examination results.
The next meeting is in Balham ward on May 19 (see page 30 for details). You can check the future timetable, send in questions and read reports of previous meetings by visiting www.wandsworth.gov.uk/listen. You can also call (020) 8871 7857.
I look forward to seeing you at a meeting soon.
Edward Lister
